Today I’m talking about one of my favorite dresses of the summer, a chambray cold-shoulder midi dress. The dress combines two of my favorite styles, the cold-shoulder and the midi dress. With fall just around the corner, the mornings and nights are becoming noticeably cooler and I am not willing to pack up this summer favorite just yet. You can easily transition this summer favorite into fall by adding layers, changing out footwear, and incorporating fall colors.
First, let’s take a look at the dress. The ruffled cold-shoulder overlay and tiered skirt lend a feminine quality to the dress and the chambray color acts as a great neutral that can be worn year-round. You can also slip your arms just under the adjustable spaghetti straps and on top of the cold shoulder overlay to create a different silhouette on the bodice of the dress. This will come in handy when it’s time to start layering. The dress is by Old Navy, but I don’t see it on the website any longer. You may still be able to find it your local Old Navy store.
Let’s start transitioning.
Swap the summer sandals for a comfy pair of ankle boots. Here, I am wearing the Earth Shoes Olive ankle boot. The cushioned footbed, reinforced arch support, and over-padded heal, make this a comfortable boot that can be worn all day. The straps and metal buckle accents, along with the burnished leather, give this boot a stylish, edgy vibe.
As the weather begins to cool off, add a top layer. Here, I’ve paired the dress with a fitted light brown denim jacket for a touch of added warmth. To balance out proportions, a shorter length jacket pairs well with fuller and tiered skirts. If your midi dress has a slimmer silhouette on the bottom, you can layer it with longer jackets or sweaters.
Pair with Fall Colors
Keep in mind that you are not limited to olive tones and light browns. You can pair with any fall colors. A burgundy tone shoe or jacket would add a beautiful rich pop of color. A deep rose (dusty pink) tone will compliment a feminine style and is perfect for bringing the pink shades of spring and summer into your fall wardrobe.

Until the next post, stay stylish and comfortable.
